Jonathan “JD” Dangel, 62, died Sunday, Oct. 18, 2020 at Sanford USD Medical Center. A funeral mass was held Wednesday, Oct. 21 at St. Boniface/Idylwilde Catholic Church, rural Freeman, S.D.
Jonathan Arthur “JD” Dangel was born on Feb. 10, 1958 at Freeman to Arthur and Phyllis (Benson) Dangel. He graduated from Freeman High School in 1976 and graduated from Northwest Iowa Technical College in Sheldon, Iowa with a degree in heavy equipment operation. He spent many successful years as an insurance representative for Combined Insurance Company. On May 30, 1992 he was united in marriage to Deb Christensen at Canton, S.D. and lived in Sioux Falls, S.D.
Jon will be remembered for his love of family and friends, his devotion and volunteer work with the Faith Temple Church Food Giveaway and his pride in being a part of the Freeman boys state ‘B’ basketball championship team in 1975.
Grateful for having shared his life are his six brothers and sisters: Carol (Robert) Johnson, Wilmot, S.D., Dave Dangel, Sioux Falls, Patrick Dangel, Lennox, S.D., Patricia (Larry) Klumb, Ethan, S.D., Diane (William) Kummer, Dimock, S.D. and Robert (Roxann) Dangel, Freeman; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister-in-law, Janice; and aunts and uncles.
