Dennis Schrock: 1949-2020

Dennis Reuben Schrock was born April 1, 1949 in Van Wert, Ohio to Albert and Mary (Edwards) Schrock. He often spoke of his memories growing up in Spencerville, Ind. with his brother, Jim, and sister, Carol. Dennis gave his life to the Lord and was baptized at age 10, at Leo Mennonite Church. Dennis graduated Eastside High school in 1967. He earned his bachelor of science degree in education in 1971. After college, he took his first teaching job at a small school in Iowa, followed by a non-teaching job at Camp Amigo.

Dewayne L. Hiebner: 1942-2020

Dewayne L. Hiebner was called home on Aug. 26, 2020 at the Aurora Memorial Hospital after going into cardiac arrest. Dewayne was born Feb. 8, 1942 in York, Neb. to Thomas and Lena (Rempel) Hiebner. He was married to Sharon Glanzer in rural Freeman, S.D. on July 18, 1965. Dewayne accepted Christ as his personal Savior as a teenager while attending an Aurora Crusade meeting. He was a member of the Faith Evangelical Bible Church in Henderson, Neb.

Alfred E. Schaeffer: 1926-2020

Alfred E. Schaeffer, age 94 of Menno, S.D., passed away Wednesday, Aug. 26, 2020 at the Menno-Olivet Care Center, Menno. A services was held Monday, Aug. 31 at Peace Christian Reformed Church, Menno, with Rev. Bill Vis officiating. Burial was at the Menno Cemetery with Military Graveside Rites by the Rames-Bender American Legion Post #152 and the SDANGHG.

Lucille B. Rembold: 1924-2020

Lucille B. Rembold, 96, of Miller, S.D. and formerly of Freeman, S.D., died Monday, Aug. 24 at the Good Samaritan Society in Miller. Visitation will be from 12 to 1 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 27 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Freeman, with a funeral service to follow at 1 p.m.

MaeBelle Gullickson: 1935-2020

MaeBelle Gullickson age 85, of Sioux Falls, S.D. passed away Monday, Aug. 10, 2020. A celebration of her life was held Aug. 17 at Peace Lutheran Church, with burial at the Salem American Lutheran Cemetery, rural Freeman, S.D.

MaeBelle Harriet Johnson, daughter of Harry and Helene (Trobak) Johnson, was born Feb. 10, 1935 in Sioux Falls. She was raised in Crooks, S.D., until the age of eight, when her family moved to Sioux Falls. She graduated from Washington High and then attended South Dakota State University.

Cora Rabe: 1937-2020

Cora Marie Rabe, 83, of Sioux City, Iowa, passed away Aug. 9, 2020 at her residence. Memorial services will be Saturday, Aug. 22 at 2 p.m. at Morningside Lutheran Church, 700 South Martha, Sioux City, Iowa. Burial was in the Menno Cemetery, Menno, S.D.

Due to the danger of Covid-19, the family will require that attendees wear masks at the service.

Eldon (Smiley) Guericke: 1945-2020

Eldon “Smiley” Arnold Guericke, 75, was born on March 16, 1945 in Scotland, S.D.

Eldon was the youngest of seven children to Arthur and Alice (Werning) Guericke. At two years old he lost his oldest sibling in a tragic car accident. This really took a toll on his parents’ lives, especially his adoring mom who had health issues, and passed away just before his ninth birthday.

Norma J. Hofer: 1939-2020

Norma J. Hofer, 81, of Sioux Falls, SD passed away Tuesday, Aug. 4, 2020 at Sanford USD Medical Center, Sioux Falls. Her funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 8 at First Lutheran Church, Sioux Falls, and will be livestreamed on the First Lutheran YouTube channel. The church requires that all attendees wear masks and social distancing will be observed. Visitation will be from 2 to 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 7 at George Boom Funeral Home & On-Site Crematory, Sioux Falls.

Marion Estella Jorstad: 1946-2020

Marion Estella Jorstad, 73, Sioux Falls, S.D., was received into the arms of Jesus on Saturday, July 25, 2020, at the Centennial Cottage, in Sioux Falls, due to complications from Alzheimer’s disease.

A funeral Service was held Wednesday, July 29, at Abiding Savior Free Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls, with burial in the Salem Community Cemetery, Freeman, S.D.

Robert "Bob" Thompson: 1934-2020

Robert “Bob” Thompson, 85 of Hurley, S.D., died Monday, July 20, 2020 in an automobile accident near Sioux Falls. A funeral was scheduled for 10:30 a.m. on Friday, July 24 at the United Methodist Church, Hurley, with burial and military rites at the Hurley Cemetery. Because of COVID-19, family and friends are encouraged to wear masks while attending the visitation and service.
