Ludigard Olenda Huber, 99, passed away at Oakview Terrace in Freeman, S.D. on Jan. 16, 2018, which would have been her 80th wedding anniversary.

Ludigard was born Dec. 5, 1918 in rural Menno, S.D., to Jacob and Pauline (Ulmer) Handel. She was baptized on March 9, 1919 by Rev. Rittershaus in Ebenezer Reformed Church and confirmed on June 25, 1933 by Rev. Bodenman in the Salem Reformed Church, both at Menno. She attended country school through eighth grade at the “Klaudt” school.

Ludigard was united in marriage to Alvin Huber on Jan. 16, 1938 in Menno by Rev. Bodenman. This marriage was blessed with three children: Orville, Cleopha and Reno. She became a widow at a young age when Alvin passed away in 1970.

Ludigard was a housewife and partner with her husband in the Huber Motor business, which started in 1936 and remained in the family up until 2012. She spent many hours running errands for Huber Motor and many adventurous trips along the way. She enjoyed gardening, baking, canning and cooking. Some of her grandchildren worked side by side learning how to make her German dishes. Later in life she enjoyed going to many of her great grandchildren’s activities.

Ludigard is survived by her three children, Orville and his wife Julie; Cleopha Kapsch and friend, Johnny Graber; and Reno and friend, Judy Rechnagel, all of Freeman. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and numerous friends and extended relatives.

Ludigard is preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter-in-law, son-in-law, grandson-in-law, five sisters and five brothers.
