Martin J. Tieszen, 105, of Marion, S.D., died Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2018 at the Tieszen Memorial Nursing Home, Marion. A funeral service was held Saturday, Jan. 27 at the Tieszen Home Chapel, with burial in the Tieszen Cemetery, rural Marion.
Martin J. Tieszen was born on Aug. 12, 1912 on a farm near Marion to Jacob and Anna (Waldner) Tieszen. He was the 10th child in a family of 10. He grew up near Marion where he attended school.
On Jan. 16, 1945 he was united in marriage to Rose Ensz at Marion. They had one son, Donald, who died in infancy and a son Ray. Martin farmed his entire life on the Tieszen home place near Marion where he lived until he became a resident of the Tieszen Home. His wife Rose died in 2009.
He was a member of the Bethseda Mennonite Church. He has been a resident of the Tieszen Home since Jan. 13, 2011.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Rose, and one son, Donald; his parents; four sisters: Lydia, Maggie, Anna and Sara; and five brothers: John, Daniel, George, Joe and Jake Tieszen. Grateful for having shared his life is his son, Ray, and several nieces and nephews.
