Fern and John Rader

Posted in:

Fern Lee Rader was born Oct. 30, 1928 in Dolton, S.D. to Isaac T. and Mary Lowen Kehn. Fern graduated high school in Bridgewater, S.D., and went on to nurses training at Sioux Valley Hospital, graduating as a registered nurse in 1949.

Fern married John M. Rader on June 2, 1949. John Rader was born to Mr. and Mrs. Luke Rader in Minneapolis, Minn., on Oct. 17, 1928. John graduated high school in Minneapolis and enlisted as a musician in United States Army. After an honorable discharge, he studied at Augustana College on a football scholarship where he met Fern, his life mate.

Together John and Fern moved to Chicago and started a new FM radio station at Moody Bible Institute. There he was a member of the men’s chorus, Sixteen Singing Men.

The couple had one son, Scott Fredric Rader, who was born in Akron, Ohio on May 26, 1960.

The Rader family moved to Riverside, Calif., where John worked in the radio ministry and Fern worked in nursing at Knollwood Hospital. In 1973 they moved to Bakersfield, Calif., where John continued in radio ministry and Fern worked at Memorial Hospital until her retirement in 1994.

Fern accepted the Lord as her savior as a child of six or seven years and together Fern and John renewed their fellowship with the Lord in 1950.

They were always concerned about others and always spread the word of God and salvation of Jesus to everyone they came in contact with.

John went to be with the Lord on Aug. 29, 2017 at his home in Bakersfield. Fern was reunited with John and peacefully went to be with the Lord on the morning of April 21, 2018 at Oakview Terrace in Freeman, S.D.

John and Fern Rader will be forever missed and loved by their son, Scott Rader, family and many friends.
