Brett Scherschligt and others gathered at Merchants State Bank field in Freeman observe a moment of silence for the late Geoffrey Pfeiffer, a Freeman Blacksox player and baseball enthusiast who passed away from brain cancer last October. Pfeiffer was honored prior to the start of the July 1 Independence Day celebration game featuring Freeman and Tabor; his No. 10 was retired and a new first base that includes Geoff's name on two sides and his number on the other two. And the Blacksox got a win, too, taking down the Bluebirds 8-0 for their first Independence Day celebration win in years. Watch for more in the July 5 edition of the Courier.
