Ted Pidde Sr., 89, of Freeman, S.D., passed away on Sunday, July 1, 2018 at Oakview Terrace, Freeman.
Ted Pidde Sr. was born on April 5, 1929 to Albert and Adella (Nehring) Pidde in Hutchinson County. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church where he was a lifelong member. He attended St. Paul Lutheran Day School and graduated from Freeman High School in 1947. On June 30, 1950, he married his high school sweetheart, Delores Walz, in Freeman. They were blessed with 68 years of marriage and two sons, Ted Jr. and Bob.
Ted worked at Morfield’s Market before and after his time in the service. He then worked at Laber’s Meat Market until he started Ted’s Food Market.
Ted will be remembered as a lifelong Chicago Cubs fan, a neighbor always willing to help and, most importantly, a compassionate, encouraging and loving spouse, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
He is survived by his wife Delores; his two sons; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren: Ted (Marlene) Pidde of Freeman and their three children, Ryan (Kia) Pidde of Sioux Falls, S.D. and daughters, Stella and Georgia, Kara (Noah) Nelson of Page, N.D. and daughters, Theadore (Thea) and Claire, Brooks (Leah) Pidde of Sioux Falls, and sons, Parker and Finn; Bob (Karen) Pidde of Freeman and their two children, Nicole (Tyson) Leite of Brookings, S.D., and son, Jackson, and Brett Pidde of Freeman.
Ted was preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Wally, Herb, Al, Marty; and sisters Helen, Elise and Alice.
A memorial service was held Thursday, July 5 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, with Rev. Terry Makelin officiating. Interment was in the Freeman City Cemetery; pallbearers were Ryan Pidde, Kara Nelson, Brooks Pidde, Nicole Leite and Brett Pidde.
