Local orators advance to state

Freeman will be well-represented at the State Oral Interpretation Festival at Central High School in Aberdeen Dec. 1 and 2. Local orators from Freeman Academy and Freeman Public will be represented 10 times in seven categories. Here’s who advanced through the region competition held last week.

From Freeman Academy:

Amelia Morkve-Stirling, Storytelling: “It Came From Beneath the Sink” by R. L. Stine

Ashley Fink, Non-Original Oratory and Serious: “Not Just the Nazis: 70th Anniversary of the Vel d’Hiver Roundup” by Francois Hollande, and “OCD, the Dude, and Me” by Lauren Roedy Vaughn

John Andrzejek, Humorous: “Dirk, the Angry Scotsman” by John C. Havens 

Alyssa Fink, Poetry: “Out of the Dust” by Karen Hesse

Alyssa Fink and Angelyn Allison, Duet: “Empowered: How one Girl Scout Nearly Destroy the World’s Economy” by Don Zolidis

Beau Miller, Gabe Miller, Luke Allison, Ryan Brockmueller, Andrzejek and Morkve-Stirling, Readers Theater: “Monty Python’s Spanish … Readers Theater?,” an adaptation.

From Freeman Public:

Tryg Aanenson, Oratory: “Three Lies” by J.C. Watts

Journey Mehlhaf, Poetry: “The Accident” by Lisa Lewis
