The Freeman Regional Health Services (FRHS) Board of Directors announced in a press release Monday, Jan. 4 that Courtney Unruh has been named the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the health care facility. “After reviewing 52 applications and four rounds of interviews, Courtney was selected as our top candidate,” said Lori Uecker, who chairs the FRHS board.

Anita Neufeld, 70, of Freeman, S.D., passed away Sunday, Jan. 3 at Oakview Terrace. A visitation with family present will be held Saturday, Jan. 9 from 2 to 5 p.m. at Walter Funeral Home in Freeman.

This is the agenda for tonight's special, in-person public meeting of the Freeman School Board that will feature a presentation from Tom Oster regarding possible future consolidation talks with Marion. It was a beautiful Saturday morning across the area as frost clung to trees like these at Silver Lake north of Freeman.

The world awoke to a new year on Friday morning, leaving 2020 behind with the promise of a fresh start on the horizon. This property is located on the south side of the South County Road in Freeman, across from the Freeman Public School campus.

Terry Auch, age 72 of Menno, S.D., passed away at home on Thursday, Dec. 31, 2020. Terry was diagnosed with brain cancer on Aug. 17. After three weeks of cancer treatments, he tested positive for COVID-19. He then spent three weeks at Avera McKennan Hospital and six weeks at Freeman Regional Health Services before returning home on hospice care.  

The final morning of 2020 was a beautiful one as frost covered trees like these just south of Freeman.

If you haven't read Part 1, click here to do so.   The family of six stood in the living room where they had spent many holiday seasons before, arms wrapped around each other, all dressed up for Christmas Day. There were no forced smiles here, only genuine happiness, love and no doubt thankfulness for the moment they were in.
