Darleen Ortman, 89 of Marion, S.D. and formally of Sioux Falls, S.D., passed away on Sunday, March 27, 2022 at the Tieszen Memorial Home in Marion. A memorial service was held Tuesday, March 29 at the Tieszen Memorial Home Chapel, Marion, with burial at the West Vermillion Cemetery, rural Dolton, S.D.

Joann Kaufman, 86, of Freeman, S.D. and formerly of Marion, S.D., passed away on March 27 at Oakview Terrace in Freeman. A funeral service will be held on Monday, April 4 at 2 p.m. at the Salem Mennonite Church of rural Freeman. Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. on Monday at the church prior to the service.  

Julie Ann (Waltner) Krehbiel was born Sept. 1, 1963 to Ervin and Edna Waltner and raised on a farm in Freeman, S.D. In 1978, she was baptized and joined Salem Mennonite Church.

Dr. Walter H. Huber, 88, of Lake Sarah, Minn., passed away peacefully and with grace on March 13, 2022 with family at his side. Walter was born on the farm near Freeman, S.D., on May 23, 1933, to Henry and Magdelene (Hodde) Huber. After Walt graduated from Freeman High School in 1951, he attended South Dakota State University and then the University of Minnesota where he earned his doctorate degree in veterinary medicine.

Elroy Myron Huber, 90, longtime Emery, S.D. resident, passed away Friday, March 11, 2022 at Tieszen Memorial Home in Marion, S.D. Elroy was born May 3, 1931 in Scotland, S.D. to Albert and Lillian (Shulz) Huber. His youth was spent on the family farm near Clayton, S.D., and the family moved to Emery when he started high school.

Solomon Tschetter, age 90, of Huron, S.D., passed away Saturday, March 19, 2022, at his home. His funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, March 25 at Mount Olivet Church. Burial will follow in the Riverside Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Kuhler Funeral Home, with his family present from 5 to 7 p.m. A prayer service and time of sharing will be held at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Kuhler Funeral Home. Solomon S. Tschetter was born to Paul P. and Barbara (Gross) Tschetter on Jan. 26, 1932, in Bridgewater, S.D.

Lee Pommerville, age 79, of Lesterville, S.D., died Thursday, March 10, 2022, at his home in Lesterville.

Leona Belle (Zeigler) Dowden passed away March 7, 2022, at the age of 98. There will be a time of visitation and viewing on Tuesday, March 15 beginning at 5 p.m. at Walter Funeral Home in Freeman with a chapel service to follow at 7:00 p.m. A committal service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, March 16, 2022, at the Arlington City Cemetery.

Brian Lee Gunderson, 59, of Hot Springs, S.D., formerly of Freeman, S.D., passed away on February 22, 2022. Brian was born on January 10, 1963 in Yankton, S.D. to Ray and Amelia (Pedde) Gunderson. He graduated from Freeman High School and University of South Dakota Springfield with a Degree in Automotive Technology. Brian worked as a mechanic and a truck driver until he retired in 2018. He enjoyed camping, traveling, working on cars, carpentry, and spending time with his dog Max.

Maynard Yoder, 61, of Freeman passed away March 9 at his home under hospice care. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 19 at the Salem Mennonite (South) Church of rural Freeman. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, March 18 at the church with a prayer service and time of sharing at 6:30 p.m.
