Allen Schoenwald, 63 of Marion, S.D., died on Tuesday, April 19, 2022 at the Sanford USD Medical Center, Sioux Falls, S.D. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 23 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Freeman, S.D. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, April 22 at the Hofmeister-Jones Funeral Chapel, Marion, with a prayer service at 7 p.m. 

Sharon Schmidt, 73, of Freeman, S.D., passed away on April 2 at Oakview Terrace in Freeman. A memorial service will be held Sunday, April 24 at 2 p.m. at the Salem Zion Mennonite Church of rural Freeman. 

Johnny Graber, 88, of Freeman, S.D., passed away on April 12 at Oakview Terrace in Freeman. A funeral was scheduled for Saturday, April 16 at 10:30 a.m. at the Salem Zion Mennonite Church of rural Freeman.

Phyllis Rae (Schrag) Bovill was born October 27, 1942, at home to Elmer and Clarice (Waltner) Schrag. She was the oldest of four siblings whom she loved her entire life. They became her closest friends and confidants. They enjoyed playing after the work was done, telling stories, and being together. As a child, she attended Brookside District #65 through the eighth grade followed by Freeman Academy where she graduated in 1960. She made friends in school, many of whom she still stayed in touch with even recently.

Julie Andersen, 69, of Harrisburg, S.D., died Friday, April 1, 2022 at the Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls, S.D. A funeral mass was held Thursday, April 7 at St. Christina Catholic Church, Parker, S.D., with burial at the Rosehill Cemetery, Parker. 

Bruce Steven Herrboldt was born on April 4, 1955, and died on March 24, 2022, at the age of 66. He was born in the back bedroom of his childhood home on the farm near Menno, S.D. He died in a field near that same place working alongside his brothers and life-long friends, doing what he loved.

Quentin Kaufman, 79, of Sioux Falls, S.D., passed away on March 30, 2022 at Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls. A service will be held Saturday, April 2 at 2:30 p.m. at the Salem-Zion Mennonite Church of rural Freeman, S.D. Visitation will begin at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday at the church, prior to the service. Quentin Eugene Kaufman was born May 15, 1942, at home in Freeman to Eugene C. and Eda Kaufman.

Sarah L. Kleinsasser Stahl, 93, was born July 12, 1928 to Julia and Joe K. Kleinsasser in Freeman, S.D. She entered her heavenly home on March 29, 2022 at Oakview Terrace in Freeman at the age of 93. A funeral service was held Saturday, April 2 at 10:30 a.m. at the Hutterthal Mennonite Church of rural Freeman.

Darleen Ortman, 89 of Marion, S.D. and formally of Sioux Falls, S.D., passed away on Sunday, March 27, 2022 at the Tieszen Memorial Home in Marion. A memorial service was held Tuesday, March 29 at the Tieszen Memorial Home Chapel, Marion, with burial at the West Vermillion Cemetery, rural Dolton, S.D.

Joann Kaufman, 86, of Freeman, S.D. and formerly of Marion, S.D., passed away on March 27 at Oakview Terrace in Freeman. A funeral service will be held on Monday, April 4 at 2 p.m. at the Salem Mennonite Church of rural Freeman. Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. on Monday at the church prior to the service.
