School boards from Marion (left), Freeman Public (center) and Freeman Academy met jointly Thursday night, April 9 to discuss a possible sports cooperative in basketball, cross-country, golf, track and volleyball. The 90-minute meeting included public comment and comments from school officials and a vote from all three boards; Marion and Freeman Academy voted in favor the agreement on the table — to form a cooperative beginning the in the fall of 2021 — while Freeman Public voted 3-2 against it. In the same way last weekend was marked by sunshine and warm temperatures, Tuesday and Wednesday have been marked by gloomy conditions. While there hasn't been a lot of rain — Freeman saw a brief shower Monday night — it's been wet enough to leave a mark, with a good chance of rain continuing today and Thursday.

Small areas of unsettled weather moving across the region created thunder, lightning, a brief rain shower with pea-sized hail and a beautiful sky late Monday afternoon and evening, April 6. Seven-year-old McKoen Dockendorf and her 4-year-old sister, Leighton, enjoy a beautiful Monday morning on the swing at Lions Park in Freeman. Short sleeves, shorts and general outdoor activity have been commonplace across the region in recent days as above-average temperatures have energized men, women and children of all ages. Highs reached into the 80s on both Saturday and Sunday and are expected to again today before a cool down — and chance of rain — Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. McKoen and Leighton are the daughters of Lee and Ashton Dockendorf of rural Bridgewater.

Men, women, children and creature — like this blackbird at the Freeman Prairie Arboretum — enjoyed a picture perfect Saturday and will benefit again on Easter Sunday from another day of sunny skies and above-average temperatures.

The sun shines and the flags flutter in the slight breeze on a beautiful Saturday morning — the start of what is expected to be a warm Easter weekend. This is significant shift from last Easter, when a spring snowstorm impacted the region.

Freeman's Main Street was a busy place Friday morning, April 2, probably because people are anticipating what is expected to be a beautiful (and possibly record-setting) Easter weekend. Grills and smokers will likely be fired up and Easter dinner will be served in households across the community. 

Students from Freeman High School rehearse the song "Fixer Upper" from the musical "Frozen Jr.," which the school will be presenting Saturday, April 17 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, April 18 at 2 p.m. in the Freeman High School gym. The musical features 27 students and is under the direction of Iwona Lewter, Sonja Waltner and Sheila Wipf.
