Canistota/Freeman finished the season 7-1 after a 40-0 win over Hanson Friday night, Oct. 16 while Menno/Marion lost to Irene-Wakonda 30-26 in Menno's homecoming game. A win would have qualified the Razorbacks for postseason play; instead they finish their final season as a cooperative with a 1-7 record. The Eagles improved to 2-6.

Menno won for the third time in four matches with a 3-1 victory over Mitchell Christian Thursday night, Oct. 15 in Menno. The Wolves downed the Golden Eagles 22-25, 25-18, 25-14, 25-22 and improved to 7-9. Mitchell Christian dropped to 2-11.

The Freeman Academy/Marion boys cross-country team won the meet, FA’s Jada Koerner was third while Menno’s Ashton Massey, Morgan Edelman and Kadeyn Ulmer all finished in the top 20 at the Region 3B Meet in Platte on Wednesday and will run at state in Rapid City Saturday, Oct. 24. Freeman Public took down Oldham-Ramonda/Rutland 3-1 in volleyball action Tuesday night, Oct. 8 while Menno held off Hanson in five sets. The Flyers won 25-14, 25-14, 22-25, 25-21 behind 13 kills and 15 digs from senior Rijjy Peterson. Oddy Pankratz added eight kills, 18 digs, 10 set assists and four aces while Ava Ammann had 20 set assists and 10 digs. The win moved Freeman to 12-6 while ORR dropped to 5-11.

In a rare day game, scheduled after Menno/Marion had its Oct. 9 meeting with Parkston canceled because of COVID-19 issues there, Colman-Egan controlled the time of possession to build a 16-0 lead at halftime and ended up winning 24-6 over the Razorbacks in Menno late Monday afternoon, Oct. 12. The C-Hawks, who play in Class 9B, improved to 4-2 while Menno/Marion dropped to 1-6.

Tyce Ortman scored on runs of 82, 6 and 21 yards and returned a punt for a 52-yard touchdown in the first quarter, and Isiah Robertson intercepted a pass for a touchdown as Canistota/Freeman Pride build a 36-0 lead over Bon Homme after 12 minutes. The Pride ended up winning 48-8 in the Oct. 9 game played in Freeman to improve to 7-1; the Cavaliers dropped to 2-5.

Canistota/Freeman had no trouble improving to 5-1 in Castlewood Friday night, Oct. 2, downing the Warriors (2-4) 58-7. The game would have been over at halftime by the 50-point mercy rule, but Castlewood took advantage of a Pride turnover and scored a touchdown midway through the second period; the score at halftime was 50-7.

Menno dominated the first set but lost the following three by close scores in a disappointing home loss to Bon Homme Thursday night, Oct. 1. The Cavaliers won 15-25, 25-23, 26-24, 25-21 and improved to 6-10; the Wolves dropped to 4-8. Jesse Munkvold once again led the way for Menno, recording 15 kills and 29 digs; she also had two blocks.
