Clara (Aman) Jorgensen, 95, died Nov. 20, 2020 in Oakview Terrace in Freeman, S.D. Clara was born to Edward and Emma (Woehl) Aman on May 21, 1925 in Freeman. She was baptized at Kassel Reformed Church where she remained a member until she got married. She grew up on the farm northwest of Freeman and went to country school. She attended high school at Freeman Public where she met her husband.

Freeman Public Schools will suspend all instruction — both in-person and remote — as well as all school-related activities the week of Nov. 23. Instruction will resume Monday, Nov. 30, although the district has not determined in what form.

Lawrence E. ‘Larry’ Stepanek, age 91 of Yankton, S.D., passed away Sunday, Nov. 15, 2020 at the Menno-Olivet Care Center, Menno, S.D. Due to COVID-19 the private family memorial service has been moved to 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 25 with Rev.

Gregory Lee Liebl, age 70 of Menno, S.D., passed away unexpectedly Friday, Nov. 13, 2020.  A funeral was held Thursday, Nov. 19 at Grace Lutheran Church, Menno, with Rev. Theresa Jacobson officiating. Burial was in the Menno Cemetery. Gregory Lee Liebl was born Nov. 16, 1949 in Yankton, S.D., to Wilma Louise (Knittel) and Vernon Francis Liebl. He was baptized and confirmed at Grace Lutheran Church.

Bonita Faye Heckenlaible, 74, of Menno, S.D. (formerly of Sioux Falls, S.D.) passed away Wednesday, Nov. 18, 2020 at the Menno-Olivet Care Center, Menno. Private family graveside services were held at the Freeman (S.D.) City Cemetery. Bonnie was born Oct. 12, 1946 to Kermit and Cora (Svartoien) Heckenlaible. She graduated from Freeman Public High School and Stewart School of Hairstyling of Sioux Falls and worked eight years as beautician/owner of the Accent Hair Salon of Sioux Falls. Her last employment was at Woods/Du-all Manufacturing of Sioux Falls as a painter for 33 years.

With milder weather in the forecast for Wednesday and Thursday, Valley View Golf Course is open to golfers; this was the scene there Wednesday morning as carts awaited patrons. Note that the clubhouse is, however, closed. Highs are expected to be in the 60s both today and tomorrow.

LaVerne “Jake” Hofer, 87, died Saturday, Nov. 7, 2020 in Sioux Falls, S.D. of a non-Covid-related illness. Services were held Nov. 12 at First Lutheran Church.
