Freeman High School swept its way past Irene-Wakonda in the second round of the Region 5B Volleyball Tournament in Freeman Tuesday night, Nov. 3, beating the Eagles 25-19, 25-13, 26-24. The No. 3 Flyers are now one win away from their third-straight SoDak 16 appearance and a spot in the state tournament; they play again Thursday night at No. Gayville-Volin, which defeated Menno 25-21, 25-16, 25-14 on Tuesday.

Gail Hagemann went to be with his Lord and Savior on Nov. 3, 2020. He was born Jan. 17, 1933 on the home farm near Winfred, S.D. to Edward and Gretchen (Morris) Hagemann. He grew up with nine brothers and sisters. They were Linda, Farrold, Elvera, Arthy, O’Dell, Gail, Dan, Gretchen, Marlyn and Lindon. Only living are Dan, Gretchen and Marlyn now.

Emily Stern casts her vote in the 2020 general election Tuesday morning, Nov. 3 inside the Freeman Community Center. Poll workers reported strong crowds Tuesday morning, with the line out the door early on and a steady stream of voters thereafter. A host of safety precautions are being taken; a plexiglass shield separates voters from workers at the table, workers are wearing masks and each polling station is disinfected and wiped down after each ballot is cast.

Seventh-seed Menno advanced to the second round of the Region 5B Volleyball Tournament with a 3-0 win over No. 10 Viborg-Hurley while No. 11 Freeman Academy/Marion lost to No. 6 Irene Wakonda 3-0 in the first round of postseason play Monday night, Nov. 2.

The 2020 general election is set for tomorrow, Tuesday, Nov. 3. This public notice, which was published in The Courier last week, shows polling places for local and area voters. Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Vincent (Vinny) Lewis Kribell was born to James and Joan Kribell on Jan. 31, 1958 in Yankton, S.D. He died Oct. 27, 2020 at the age of 62. Vince was the third born into a family of six children. He and his siblings grew up on the family farm and Vince graduated from Irene High School in 1976.

One morning after the first full moon on a Halloween since 1944, a spectacular sky ushered in the first day of November Sunday morning. Chilly and quiet, the morning of Nov. 1 preceded an active Oct. 31 night that included a host of children out and about collecting candy. 

Jerome Christensen, 93, of Parker, S.D., passed away on Oct. 28, 2020 at the Tieszen Memorial Home in Marion, S.D. A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 2 at Rosehill Cemetery, Parker. Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 1 at Grace Lutheran Church, Parker. Due to Covid-19, the family request that guests wear a mask and practice social distancing at Jerome's visitation.
