Kaylie Schempp, the libero on the Menno High School volleyball team, is introduced prior to the Wolves' match against Canistota Tuesday night, Oct. 6 in Menno. Schempp and the Wolves survived a five-set scare from the one-win Hawks, outlasting them 16-14 in the fifth and final set. The win improved Menno to 5-8. Also in action Tuesday night was Freeman Academy/Marion, which dropped to 0-8 with a 3-0 loss to Andes Central/Dakota Christian, and Freeman Public, which improved to 11-6 with a 3-0 win over Bon Homme.

Elisha Wright: 1980-2020
On Friday, Sept. 25, 2020, at the age of 39, Elisha Wright died unexpectedly. Elisha was born on Oct. 27, 1980 in Bon Homme County. Shortly after graduation from Scotland High School, he moved to Oklahoma to work with his uncle, Rick Machacek, in the oil fields. Elisha returned to South Dakota about 10 years later.

Pauline DeHoogh: 1924-2020
Pauline DeHoogh, 96, of Sioux Falls, S.D., passed away on Oct. 5, 2020 at the Good Samaritan Village in Sioux Falls. Pauline Krabbenhoft was born Sept. 21, 1924 in Hubbard, Neb. to Paul and Alvina (Keim) Krabbenhoft. She graduated from Laurel High School in Nebraska and attended nursing school in Sioux City. Upon graduation, she began work at Lutheran Hospital in Sioux City in 1945. She later moved to Minneapolis and met Earl DeHoogh while working at a hospital. Earl and Pauline were married in 1950.
