These construction barricades stand on the northwest corner of the city of Freeman on the North County Road and prevent access to the city's tree/branch and rubble site a half-mile to the west while Hutchinson County completes culvert work. Access can be gained, however, from the west. City Hall says work is expected to continue all week.

Is is typical between 10:30 and 11 a.m., the Freeman Post Office was a busy place Monday morning.

Downtown Freeman is pictured on another hazy morning resulting from Canadian wildfires that continue to impact the air quality in the Upper Midwest. 

This photo shows the Freeman Courier office when it was the City Cafe, when Coast To Coast was located to the south and an empty lot sat to the north. The City Cafe replaced the Shack Cafe on the same property and was in operation from 1942 to 1972, when Dennis Wollman started his pharmacy there. The building also served as The Et Cetera Shoppe before the Courier moved in in 1995 after a major remodel that followed The Et Cetera Shoppe relocation to a brand-new building to the north. 

This photo was taken following Freeman/Marion's final out in the Region 7 championship game against Tyndall — a game the Sticks won 9-3 to advance to the South Dakota VFW 14U State Tournament next week in Corsica. The eight-team bracket was released Thursday night and is as follows: Freeman/Marion will face Corsica-Stickney at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 21 followed by Mt. Vernon/Plankinton against Baltic. The winners will play in the semifinals Saturday at 4 p.m. The losers will play in the consolation bracket Saturday 11 a.m.

This was the scene early Wednesday evening as the reenactment of the First National Bank of Freeman robbery of 1935 played out before a crowd of several hundred. The production was directed by Jeremy Waltner and staged by actors portraying the four robbers (Kerry Hofer, Cullen Mack, Collin Waltner and Evan Waltner); the banker taken hostage (Dennis Lehmann); Emma Fensel (Becky Waltner), who encounters the robbers after making a deposit; two bystanders inside (voiced by Brett Pidde) and a narrator (Seth Loofbourrow).

The pattern of wetter weather continues after another shot of rain during the overnight hours of Wednesday morning. Close to 2 inches was reported in Freeman with more than an inch falling in rural areas. Riley Gall winds up to deliver a pitch on the opening night of the VFW Region 7 14U Tournament being hosted by Scotland this week. Gall and the Freeman/Marion Sticks won twice on Monday, defeating Centerville 9-4 in their first game and then Tyndall 3-1 in the nightcap behind a solid pitching performance from Gall. In the other game on Monday, Scotland/Menno fell to Tyndall 9-1.
