Lynette Preheim: 1939-2020
Lynette Preheim, 80 of Marion, S.D., died Sunday, Jan. 12, 2020 at the Tieszen Memorial Home in Marion following a long struggle with Parkinson’s Disease and Lewy Body Dementia. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 12, 2020 at Emmanuel Presbyterian Church in Marion. A lunch will follow the service, with burial at Salem Mennonite Cemetery, rural Freeman, S.D. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be directed to Bethel College, North Newton, Kan., or to the Emmanuel Presbyterian Church Backpack Program.

Gary Haiar, 62, of Mitchell, S.D., passed away peacefully in his sleep Saturday, Aug. 29, 2020 from a heart attack at his home in Mitchell. A service was held Thursday, Sept. 3 at Bittner Funeral Chapel. Burial will be at a later date in Graceland Cemetery in Mitchell.

A private family service was held Monday, Sept. 7 at 10 a.m. at Bethesda Lutheran Church.

FLYERS BEAT CENTERVILLE, MOVE TO 3-1
The volleyball team from Freeman High School beat Centerville in straight-sets Tuesday night, Sept. 8, to improve to 3-1. The Flyers defeated the Tornados easily, 25-19, 25-14. 25-11 in Centerville. Senior Rijjy Peterson had an all-around great game with seven kills and led the team with 12 digs and eight aces. Oddy Pankratz had a team-high 10 kills and added nine set assists and four aces while Mesa Mehlhaf and Kate Miller had four kills each. Ava Ammann led the team with 12 set assists.

Barring rain, old-fashioned tractors and plows like these will be put back into use this afternoon for the traditional Labor Day plowing bee near Freeman. Enthusiasts are invited to participate or watch as the earth is turned in a way that used to be just the way it was. Plowing is scheduled to start at 1 p.m. The location of this year's plowing bee is 2 miles north of Fensel's Corner (276th St.) and less than a half-mile west of Highway 81. A sign with an arrow is located on the side of the highway.

Dennis Schrock: 1949-2020
Dennis Reuben Schrock was born April 1, 1949 in Van Wert, Ohio to Albert and Mary (Edwards) Schrock. He often spoke of his memories growing up in Spencerville, Ind. with his brother, Jim, and sister, Carol. Dennis gave his life to the Lord and was baptized at age 10, at Leo Mennonite Church. Dennis graduated Eastside High school in 1967. He earned his bachelor of science degree in education in 1971. After college, he took his first teaching job at a small school in Iowa, followed by a non-teaching job at Camp Amigo.
