On March 12, 2021 Gary Ole Gullickson, loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle and son passed away from complications of Parkinson’s disease. Gary was born on June 22, 1944 in Freeman, S.D. to Della (Graber) and Walter Gullickson. His childhood years were spent on the family farm, working alongside his parents. He attended Our Town School District #97, a one-room school in Turner County and was the only student in his grade for eight years. He often spoke of fond memories of life on the farm and the many fishing trips he took with family. 

Jimmy “Jim” Otto Woehl, age 62 of Menno, S.D., passed away peacefully at home on Monday, March 15, 2021 surrounded by family. Jim was diagnosed with a glioblastoma multiforme on May 22, 2020. After undergoing radiation and chemotherapy treatments, he was placed on home hospice care on Dec. 21, 2020. A funeral service was held Saturday, March 20 at Peace Christian Reformed church, Menno, with Rev. Michael Hecht and Pastor Jack Gray officiating. Donald Wayne Glanzer was born to Jacob H. and Lavina (Wollman) Glanzer on Dec. 28, 1944, on a farm south of Bridgewater, S.D. He was the youngest of six children. He was welcomed into heaven on March 9, 2021, at Oakview Terrace in Freeman, S.D, at the age of 76.

Samuel E. Hofer, 87, of Salem, S.D., passed away March 4 at the Freeman hospital. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, March 9 at 10 a.m. at the Zion Mennonite Church of Bridgewater, S.D. Visitation will be Monday at the church from 5 to 7 p.m. COVID-19 guidelines are encouraged at both opportunities to celebrate Sam’s life.

Justin Baer, 40, of Rapid City and a 1999 graduate of Freeman High School passed away on Saturday, February 27 in Huntsville, AL from a work related accident. Further arrangements are pending.   Justin Tyler Baer, 40, of Rapid City, S.D., passed away while surrounded by his family on Saturday, Feb. 27 in Huntsville, Ala. from injuries sustained in a work-related accident.

Edna Kludt, 95, of Menno, S.D., passed away Feb. 25, 2021 at the Menno Olivet Care Center in Menno. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service which is at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, March 5 at Peace Christian Reformed Church in Menno. Burial will be at the Menno Cemetery. Due to COVID-19 concerns, friends and family are encouraged to participate through live streaming on Edna’s obituary page at www.goglinfuneralhome.com Those wishing to attend the service in person are encouraged to wear a mask and practice social distancing guidelines.  

Jim Hopf, 66 died Friday, Feb. 26, 2021 at the Alcester Care and Rehabilitation Center surrounded by his family after a long hard-fought battle with Parkinson’s Disease. A funeral service was scheduled for 10 a.m. Thursday, March 4 at Harmony Presbyterian Church, Hurley, S.D., with burial in the Hurley Cemetery. Service will be livestreamed at www.facebook.com/HofmeisterJonesFuneralHome/. Visitation was scheduled from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday evening at the Hofmeister Jones Funeral Home in Parker, S.D.

Waldo Hofer, age 96, of rural Hitchcock, S.D., passed away Monday, Feb. 22, 2021, at his home.  His private family funeral service was held at 10 a.m., Monday, March 1 at the Kuhler Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Ebenezer Cemetery, rural Doland, S.D. Memorials are preferred and may be directed to the James Valley Christian School or Byron Bible Camp.

Betty Steffen age 87 of Menno, S.D., peacefully passed away Friday, Feb. 26, 2021 at the Oakview Terrace nursing home, Freeman, S.D. Betty was born Jan. 12, 1934 in Springfield, S.D. to Pete and Florence (Stark) Johnson. Betty married Kleo Steffen Aug. 2,1952. They had a dairy farm north of Olivet, S.D. Betty helped with the daily operations of the farm, gardened, painted the farm buildings and made beautiful quilts for herself and her family. Some even sold or were donated to charity.

Lorna Norma Langle, formerly of Clayton, S.D., passed away Monday, Feb. 22 at Oakview Terrace, Freeman, S.D. at the age of 92. Lorna Norma (Dubs) Langle was born Dec. 26, 1928 to John W. and Emilie (Weiss) Dubs). She was baptized January 6, 1929 at Heilbronn Trinity Lutheran Church and confirmed April 2, 1944 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Freeman, S.D.
